Are Long lasting Cosmetics permanent makeup ink genuinely long lasting?
Everlasting cosmetic techniques are regarded long lasting simply because pigment is tattooed into the higher reticular component of the dermal layer of the pores and skin and as a result, can't be washed off. Even so, as with any tattoo or colorant (pigment) in basic, fading can and usually does occur. This consequence is periodic routine maintenance referred to as color re-enhancement or color refreshing becoming essential. The scientific construction of pigments and the necessity for periodic refreshing is similar to that of tinted hair color pale substance on furnishings that might be positioned around a window which is matter to sun publicity or property paint that is exposed to the sunshine and other environmental factors.

“Lovely Rita”

Lovely RitaAhh yes, “Lovely Rita, meter maid…” I’ve got the lyrics stuck in my head. Yes, I am old enough to remember the classic song by the Beatles (but just barely). And the reason I am thinking of it is because of how lovely (and happy) my client Rita looked on TV today.

permanent makeup ink Rita Campbell lives in Florence, Arizona with her charming husband TBA. She appeared on ABC 15′s “Sonoran Living” for my latest segment on permanent makeup. It was one of those full circle scenarios in life.

You see, Rita saw me on Sonoran Living in April. After watching my segment on TV, she called me and said she wanted to know more about permanent makeup. Practicing what I always preach on the show, I suggested Rita come in for a free consultation. She excitedly agreed.

Like so many of us in 21st Century life today, Rita had this look of just kind of being tired. She also said she had a really hard time trying to keep on her eye makeup without it smearing. She said she didn’t like having to constantly battle with her own messy eyes. She was looking for a solution to this problem and thought permanent makeup might actually be it. She was right.

We began by applying topical makeup to her eyeliner since this was the major issue. However, we also did the same for her eyebrows and lips. She thought the whole concept was best for her to achieve the look she wanted.

Rita was so excited about having permanent makeup done she didn’t have room to be nervous. She brought exactly the same attitude to the ABC 15 Studios in Phoenix. She was delightful to have on the show and Rita looks absolutely lovely!

Permanent Makeup Westlake Village CA Secrets Revealed

Permanent MakeupGoodness gracious! My Permanent Makeup Westlake Village CA secrets are out!

Nouveau Contour permanent makeup  In this case, they’re out as a result of all the questions I keep hearing. It seems people want to know why is there now a Sally Hayes Permanent Makeup Westlake Village, CA location of all places.

For the convenience of others, we did a video with my permanent makeup client turned colleague, friend and shopping partner, Donna Sollima, R.N. I met Donna way back in the 20th Century at a meeting of the Society of Plastic Surgery Skincare Specialists in nearby Beverly Hills, CA. Now she runs RN Skincare, Inc., a medical skincare clinic in Westlake Village, CA designed for women.

Donna and Sally Reveal Secrets of Westlake Village

For those who don’t know, Westlake Village is a small but beautiful community which grew out of Thousand Oaks, California. It’s a short ride from the Burbank aiport and other popular paradise locations in Southern California such as Malibu and Santa Barbara. I love how the women in these areas are so passionate about taking good care of their personal appearance and looking as young and beautiful and stylish as possible every day.

Oh yeah, and did I mention that RN Skincare is only a few minutes away from the fabulous Camarillo shopping outlets? It offers an exciting experience for women who want to easily encounter and experience the powerful benefits, rewards, and joys of medical skincare AND a healthy dose retail therapy on the same day. It’s a classic case of instant gratification at its finest.

Permanent Makeup Santa Barbara Success

permanentmakeupsantabarbara1Since you’re reading this on the internet, you already know your computer is a valuable tool for doing research. The topic of permanent makeup, permanent cosmetics, or micropigmentation (whichever you like to use) is one of many examples of finding whatever information you want at your fingertips.

microblading ink But wait, there’s still another easy way. And you know it’s pretty valuable, too.

I’m trying hard to be internet savvy but a big part of me is still “old school” and probably always will be. Having worked as a permanent makeup artist since before the growth of the internet took off to the point where we all seem to use it today, the good, old-fashioned “word of mouth” was one of the main ways I would get new clients to come and see me.

I’d tattoo a woman’s eyebrows, eyeliner, or lips, and she’d have a great experience. Then she would tell a friend, who would tell a friend, and so on. Or, I’d get a call from a plastic surgeon who would refer a patient to me hoping I could get her out of a painful situation of permanent makeup gone wrong. In any event, word of mouth worked when I first began in permanent cosmetics in the 1980′s, and it’s still working today even with the internet being the booming industry it is.

Good, old-fashioned word of mouth is a powerful form of research for anyone considering having a permanent makeup procedure or choosing a permanent makeup artist. Case in point. I had the privilige of working on a beautiful woman named Judy. She is from Santa Barbara, California.

Judy spoke to her friends who had me do their permanent makeup. She asked them questions and listened closely to their answers. She also looked closely at their eyebrows, eyeliner, or lips, whatever parts of their face they had done. After all that was when Judy called me to book a complimentary consultation.

I did her permanent makeup out of the RN Skincare Clinic in Westlake Village, California. She was still a little unsure of the process having never gone through a procedure before. But she soon created her own permanent makeup success story…with a little help from her friends.

You can watch this short video with Judy which we just posted to my YouTube Channel. If you are exploring permanent makeup, perhaps you can consider it a piece of your own research and helpful, good, old-fashioned “word of mouth.”

Westlake Village Beauty Salon Pro Fixes Permanent Makeup

tattoo ink Permanent makeup gone wrongKerstin is one of my newer permanent makeup clients. She is a woman who knows beauty from both sides. She works at a beauty salon in Westlake Village, CA near Donna Sollima’s RN Skincare Clinic where I work regularly. Kerstin also knows beauty because she sees it every day in the mirror.

Though she is seen in the beauty industry every day, Kerstin doesn’t like having to apply and wear makeup to look good for clients. She doesn’t have to now. Permanent makeup enhances her natural beauty.

Years ago, she had permanent makeup done for the first time. Unfortunately, she went to a permanent makeup artist who turned out not to be the right fit. The color of her eyeliner not only faded, it faded into what Kerstin described as a “funky color.”

As a result, every day for years, this beautiful woman who didn’t want to wear makeup every day felt forced into doing it…just to cover up her permanent makeup gone wrong. This goes against the exact reason she wanted to have permanent cosmetics in the first place.

The Second Time Around

When Kerstin decided it was time to have her permanent makeup re-done she knew not to go back to the same permanent makeup artist. She did her homework. She talked to other women. Someone mentioned the name Sally Hayes to her, and she looked into me. She looked at the faces of some of my clients, and talked to some of these women about their experience.

I was happy to be able to do what what I could to help Kerstin. In fixing really bad permanent makeup jobs, I often have to send women to see a laser doctor first before I can do my part in fixing their eyebrow tattoos, permanent eyeliner, or permanent lip makeup.

It’s always fun to work on women in the beauty or cosmetics fields because they usually know so much about what they want, what I do, and we generally have much in common and share a great experience together. You can watch the video with Kerstin with Kerstin which we just posted on my YouTube Channel by clicking on this link:

What is permanent makeup?

Simply put, it is cosmetic tattooing. During a procedure, usually one hour or less, an artist or technician deposits pigmentation beneath the surface of your skin on the dermis layer. This is done to create your desired look in the tattooed area.It is also known as permanent cosmetics. In the medical community the exact same process is referred to in more clinical sounding terms as Micropigmentation. Most procedures are done on women, but some men opt for it, too. The ages of those who choose this solution range from 18 to those well into senior-citizen status. (The oldest woman to have a permanent makeup procedure by Sally was 97.)

Permanent makeup is different than traditional body art tattoos which are usually designed to stand out, generate attention, or make some sort of statement. The best applications are undetectable. It is meant to provide subtle support of a person’s natural features. As a result, procedures should be done in a manner which blends with a person’s skin tones. Most experienced professionals will advise against trying to match hair colors or using unnatural colors which do not blend with skin tones.

As for the “permanent” label, this process is again different than traditional body art tattooing. Pigments and not inks are used in permanent makeup. Thus, they do not last for a lifetime. Occasional touch ups every few years may be considered depending on a variety of factors, including personal preferences, darkness of facial features, amount of exposure to the sun, and the quality of the procedure performed.

What is your experience with Permanent Makeup?

In 1986, while attending a hair show, I watched a presentation by a well-known doctor who believed permanent makeup would quickly gain popularity. I decided to take this doctor’s permanent makeup training course. I then went to California and took another course with another leading doctor. When I returned home, I had even more professional training and supervision from Richard Wohl, M.D., a friend who was a prominent plastic surgeon in Arizona. Dr. Wohl was really was instrumental in helping me perfect my technique and giving me the guidance and encouragement I needed to go forward.By 1988, I was doing permanent makeup on a full-time basis. I discovered this was my passion and wanted it to be my new career. And so I ended up selling my successful beauty salon in Scottsdale to pursue only permanent makeup, and I have never looked back.

Am I a good candidate for permanent makeup?

The benefits appeal to a wide variety of people, mainly women, but to a few men, also. Permanent makeup is for anybody who buys makeup or who doesn’t like the time and effort required to apply, re-apply, and remove it every day at multiple points in the day. If you are someone looking for an easier way to a consistently beautiful appearance which looks natural in enhancing the contours of your face, then you would be a good candidate. Basically, you will be giving yourself a great way to look good 24/7 and save time. Also, this is a perfect solution for anybody who has allergies to ingredients in topical makeup, has vision problems, or difficulties with their motor skills. It’s very difficult to apply eyeliner, eyebrows, and lipstick if you have tremors or shaky hands, or you just can’t see close up. Permanent makeup will make your life easier.

How do I get started?

Permanent makeup is incredibly popular today. There are many real benefits, and they are long-lasting. This cosmetic solution offers tremendous value when you compare it to anything and everything else in personal beauty. You get started by realizing this is an industry which does not offer you the same consistent experience like walking into McDonald’s, Target, Macy’s, or Walgreens, where you know exactly what you’re going to get and what kind of experience you’re going to have.Remember you have but one face. Do you want to trust putting it in the hands of just anyone because they are conveniently located or the price is right? Bad permanent makeup can make a mess of your appearance, self-image, and attitude about life. It can cost you far more than the cost of the procedure. The pain of overcoming such a common mistake is physical, emotional, and financial.

Not all permanent makeup artists are equal. Not all are properly trained. Anyone can call herself or himself certified, an artist, or a professional. The proof is in their performance, and you wear the results on your face.

It’s very important you do your research. I recommend the internet because there is a ton of information on the subject. It’s right at your fingertips. You can look and read any time you want. You can look at websites, YouTube videos, and before/after photos for the quality of an artist’s work. You can learn about their knowledge and skills by the quality of their online content. You can see reviews and testimonials posted by other users.

Also, ask people whose opinions you value and trust for recommendations or referrals of permanent makeup professionals. Ask your doctor, your hairdresser, or someone whose permanent makeup you like.

I highly recommend seeing one or more artists or technicians for a consultation. It’s one of my most valuable recommendations, and one of my favorite things to do in my job.

I invite you to take advantage of a consultation. There is no-risk and no obligation. You simply come in and tell me what you think you want. Let me make recommendations and also show you with topical makeup how you will look if you go forward with the procedure. In less than 30 minutes you can literally see and hear for yourself if it’s really what you want to have done, and if I’m the right professional for you.

You can even have your permanent makeup done the same day as you have a consultation. I will never do your procedure without showing you first. Simply tell me at the time of scheduling your consultation that you might want to do the procedure the same day, and I will leave time open for you.

NOTE: If a permanent makeup technician can’t show you what you will look like using topical makeup, you probably do not want to assume the risks they can somehow do it using cosmetic tattooing.

Does Permanent Makeup Hurt?

Permanent makeup does not hurt. I say this from a few different perspectives. As a longtime professional who performs procedures 5 1/2 days a week, I can tell you honestly I can sometimes go an entire month without a single client complaining about pain or discomfort. As someone who has had permanent makeup herself, I can tell you it doesn’t hurt.

As someone who knows everyone’s levels of fear and threshold for pain are different, I make your comfort an integral part of the service I provide.

Getting permanent makeup doesn’t hurt but the described feelings of the experience vary from person to person. Five different people can have five different sensations during their procedure. Here are some examples:

“I made it a whole lot worse in my head than it turned out to be.”
“Oh, it tickles!”
“It feels a little scratchy, like you’re using a pencil that’s not sharp enough.”
“I didn’t really feel a thing.”
“I can’t believe I actually fell asleep.”

For permanent eyeliner and permanent eyebrows, most people say having the procedure done felt like a scratching or tickling sensation. Usually, you don’t feel much if anything at all. With permanent eyeliner, it is fairly common for you to want to rub an eye after the procedure. Pain is generally not an issue for most women.

For permanent lip color, I take extra measures for your comfort. I always have a registered nurse with me to do what is, in essence, a superficial dental block. This way, you will feel absolutely nothing while we give you the luscious looking lips you’ve always wanted.

Regarding cosmetic tattooing of areolas, if you have undergone a mastectomy you may have very little sensation. However, in my opinion, you have already been through more than enough. I will use a lidocaine topical anesthetic as a numbing agent for you just in case you do have feeling.

What permanent makeup procedures do you do?

I perform procedures for eyebrows, eyeliner and full lip color or permanent lip makeup. I also do cosmetic camouflage; mainly through nipple areola tattooing and facelift scars. All of the permanent makeup procedures I do are fun, and every person I meet is different, so my work is never boring. I never get tired of my job because it is so exciting to me. It’s still like opening a Christmas package every time I do a procedure for someone and then give them the mirror when it is finished. They see their new look for the first time and go, “Wow!”

What do I need to know about Permanent Eyebrows or Eyebrows Tattoo Procedures?

The eyebrows are important. They attract attention to your eyes. They help to frame your face. While there’s the popular saying, about wearing your heart on your sleeve, it’s the eyebrows which change your appearance and really define the expression of all your emotions from happy, sad, or anger.Permanent Eyebrows are a quick and easy way to give yourself a mini-makeover or new look. Since they are such a noticeable representation of you and your appearance, you want to have them done in a way where the level of quality matches the level of importance to you.If your eyebrows look fake or misplaced, it will often create a negative reflection on you. Natural-looking tattooed eyebrows will generate positive responses to you and your appearance. They will also be so much easier to maintain, and will give you back time every day with newfound freedom from applying, checking, and worrying about embarrassing smudges, smears, and run offs.

Take advantage of my consultations. It could the best 20 minutes to give you confidence and clarity in the process. When you come in, I will listen to what you want and make recommendations from there. I will show you with topical makeup exactly how your enhanced eyebrows will look for you.

The color is harmonized to your skin, not the color of your hair, the color of the month, etc. You always want to have a very natural-looking eyebrow. I don’t believe in putting any black or gray in your eyebrows.

What do I need to know about Permanent Eyeliner Procedures?

I ask you to come in for your consultation and your procedure without wearing any eyeliner, mascara or eye shadow. If you wear contact lenses, you will need to remove them. If they’re soft contacts, you’ll be able to put them right back in as soon as we’re done. If they’re hard contact lenses, then you need to leave them out for about three to six hours.I will apply a topical paste on your eyelid just along your lash line. You will have your eyes closed and I just gently flip it up during the procedure. It’s a very simple and very quick procedure which really does not hurt. Some women say it just feels a little bit scratchy. Most describe it as feeling like it is tickly, and they want to rub their eyes.I have my own technique for doing all applications of permanent eyeliner. I do it along the lash line and underneath it, instead of the topical makeup look where the line is above the lash line. There is good reason why I have done it this way for so many years:

I don’t like wrinkles. I don’t believe in helping or creating them, especially around the eyes.

I have consulted with some of the leading plastic surgeons to help me refine this technique. I’m a woman just like you. I’m one who is certainly as age conscious as you or probably anyone you know. I don’t want to see wrinkles or let them have their way with me or you.

I want to help you look better, feel better, not help your wrinkles and hurt your appearance and your feelings. The way I do permanent eyeliner is because of the fact that as we age, our eyelids tend to get more crêpe-like, more vulnerable to wrinkles. You certainly don’t want to look like you had an unsteady hand when you had your makeup applied.

Personally, my permanent eyeliner is 26 years old and I’ve only touched it up three times. God knows I’ve aged but people still tell me how great it looks. Women love how having their eyeliner applied along the lash line and under the lash line. It looks good the day we do it, and it looks good, as well as natural, as they age gracefully.

Finally, here is a golden nugget most women want to know. Following your procedure, you can wear mascara again in 24 hours. However, you will need to use a new tube to minimize any risk of infection.

What do I need to know about Permanent Lip Makeup Procedures?

Lips are important to every woman who cares about her appearance. People always look at your mouth and when you don’t have lips or your lip line has faded, or your vermilion edges are gone, it makes your mouth look smaller and often makes you look older. Many women say this makes them feel older, too. Whereas, if your mouth is clearly defined, and you have a pretty lip color, it’s like your eyes, it pops for you. It improves your appearance and your confidence. Permanent lip makeup can do this for you.I have you bring a lipstick that you like to your appointment. I will then take your real lip color and formulate it. It is always recommended you pick a lipstick color which harmonizes with your skin. It should be a color you don’t mind waking up with every day. Remember, you will have flexibility as you can apply any topical makeup lipstick over your permanent lip color whenever you want. There is one important point you should remember about lips. Lips are tissue which is quite different than skin. As a result, lip tattoos won’t be as bright as traditional lipstick.

As you know, your lips are very sensitive. Therefore, I have a registered nurse give you a superficial block so you are in total comfort with no pain when you have your lips permanently colored.

As for lip procedures in general, I always advise against doing only lip liner. It leaves you with a “ring around the mouth” look which I’m pretty sure you won’t find to be an attractive look to wake up to every day. On a regular basis, I have many women come to me after the fact wishing their previous technician or artist mentioned this to them before doing their lip liner procedure.

The real art in tattooing lips is getting a perfect line. What happens too often is a person gets an imperfect line which doesn’t blend with their lip color, and it leaves them unhappy and insecure over their unwanted “ring around the mouth.”

I have built my entire career of more than a quarter century on delivering undetectable permanent makeup. I believe wholeheartedly in it. My clients agree. I always recommend doing the full lips, the liner and blushing throughout. This provides an absolute match in lip color for you and it looks natural for you morning, noon, and night, saving you time, effort, and total freedom from worrying about “ring around the mouth.”

If you have fever blisters, you will need to get a prescription medication such as Valtrex to take prior to your lip procedure.

What do I need to know about Cosmetic Camouflage Tattooing Areolas?

I approach this matter of cosmetic camouflage with the utmost compassion and sensitivity. Actually, I’ve undergone surgical procedures on my own breasts. While I don’t claim to know exactly what it means to you, I can at least share a pretty good understanding of it. That’s a great starting point for us to get your breasts looking more like you want. While it sounds cliché, it is also the truth… every case is different. The best thing you can do is let me provide you with a no-risk, no-obligation consultation, and look at the solution which is best for your breasts. If you are someone who has had a mastectomy, we can easily create the appearance of a whole new areola. I can do a 3-D effect where it blends in naturally. Sometimes the surgeon creates a nipple for the patient, but not always. In those situations, I do that, too, with blending of the right colors.

In most cases, it takes two applications. I tattoo the area the first time. Then you wait about 30 days and come back for the second application which is when we fine tune the color. We have more flexibility than you may realize here. For instance, if you want to see more of a beige tone to your areolas, we can do it. If you think more of a light pink tone looks better, we can do that, too. Whatever the natural color of your areolas was prior to your surgery is what we should have as our target.

You know, areola tattooing is so important because it represents the finished product for a patient after reconstructive surgery. I’ve learned that most women whom I’ve worked on feel like it’s given them a feeling of completion.

Having breast implants can also be an emotional journey. You don’t want to come so far and have areolas with no coloring. The women for whom I have done cosmetic tattooing of their areolas want their new breasts to look complete, to look as natural as possible. They’ve wanted to feel like the past was over.

If it is time for the new look and the new chapter in your life to begin, cosmetic tattooing of your areolas can be the bridge between the past and the future. I would be honored to help you get there.

How does permanent makeup work with facelift scars?

First, let me say I’ve been blessed to work closely with and learn from some of the finest plastic surgeons in the world. You will find a number of them on my website under the Endorsements tab. These are doctors who do outstanding cosmetic surgery work that gets amazing results for their patients. They believe in micropigmentation being a valuable tool on their medical tool belts for helping their patients, and because these top-notch professionals build their reputation and their practice on precision and perfection, they are particularly sensitive to the level of quality done in permanent makeup. As Julio L. Garcia, M.D. in Las Vegas, Nevada, so accurately states, “Bad permanent makeup makes good cosmetic surgery look bad.”As for facelift scars, I find permanent makeup to be a very successful solution in camouflaging them. One thing about scars, you know they are inevitable; if you’re going to have surgery, you’re going to have a scar. As to what extent, depends on the person and the procedure.

Some people barely scar after surgery, while other people will have a little bit more of a scar. In any case, cosmetic tattooing presents a great way of covering up a scar and making it look smooth. If you like to wear your hair up behind your ears, you can take colors and blend them in. Sometimes right in the front of your ear you might have a little fine scar which can also be covered up.

Some people are very self-conscious about being left with a facelift scar. Through permanent makeup following plastic surgery, the cosmetic tattooing can fix this problem for you or blend it in to harmonize with your skin to the point where the scar doesn’t stand, and you feel much better about your appearance.

Will the application of Permanent Makeup have any effect on future plastic surgery?

No. It most definitely should not have any effect on plastic surgery procedures you have in the future. I work hand-in-hand with a number of the leading cosmetic surgeons across the United States. They will tell you the same thing. The key here is that the tattooing needs to be properly placed so you need to choose your artist wisely. Otherwise, you could be faced with a full process of visiting your plastic surgeon for laser treatments to have it removed.

What permanent makeup procedures do you NOT do?

I get this question often. I am answering it here not to sound negative but actually with a positive intention. I’m hoping to save you time in your research if you have your heart set on certain aspects of permanent cosmetics.I do not do the following procedures:Permanent Eye Shadow: I have never done this procedure because I don’t believe in it. I feel like this procedure locks people into a look that could easily become dated. To me, it isn’t worth it since eye shadow for most people is very easy to put on topically.

Permanent Blush: To put it in simple and straightforward terms, I just feel like this is too big of a liability issue.

Permanent Beauty Marks: I just don’t feel good about them. Over the years, I have been asked to fix too many of them done by other artists or technicians after they wound up looking more like nasty blackheads than anything else. So, I don’t create beauty marks.

Dark Spots: I don’t tattoo dark spots. You can’t cover something that’s dark and make it light. You can cover a white scar but not a dark scar or a red scar.

I don’t do birth marks.

I don’t tattoo under eye concealer.

I don’t tattoo scalps.

How do I prepare for a Permanent Makeup Procedure?

Keep in mind this is not surgery. So you can eat or drink anything you want prior to your procedure.Really, all that is different is you just don’t wear any topical makeup on your face. You have clean eyes without contacts. You have a clean face. It is okay if you wear your moisturizer. You can drive yourself to and from any procedure. If you have a career, you can return to work right after we’re done or take off the rest of the day. It’s up to you.

In terms of managing your time, you can be safe if you allot an hour for a procedure. Doing multiple procedures saves you time. You can figure on around two hours if you’re doing a full face consisting of eyebrow tattoos, permanent eyeliner, and full lip color.

What is the healing process like following Permanent Makeup Procedures?

Permanent Eyebrows: This procedure involves the most healing. It’s up to a week. For the first four days, your eyebrows are going to look a little bit darker. It should look like you used a pencil. And then usually on Day 4, they get scaly and it comes off. It’s not anything drastic where you need to take time off from work. But it does help to know what you can expect. I’ll remind you at the time of your procedure. It’s also important to know you should not pick at your new eyebrows. Believe me, I can tell if you did. It is only about a week from start to finish on the healing process.Permanent Eyeliner: With this procedure there is virtually no downtime whatsoever for a healing process. Yes, you can wear mascara again in 24 hours. However, you must use a new tube in order to prevent infection. The only real limitation is you just can’t apply any additional makeup on your eyes for three days following your procedure.

Permanent Lip Makeup: Some technicians or artists don’t go to the extent I do to make sure you are comfortable during your procedure. But if it doesn’t have to hurt, why should it? After your procedure, it will be very similar to having chapped lips. Around the 4th day, your lips will usually peel around the edges. You are easily able to soothe them and cover it up wearing your favorite lip gloss or lip balm. It is nothing serious. You’ll be smiling over the look of your new lips right away.

Should I do Multiple Permanent Makeup Procedures at one time? If so, are there any advantages?

There really is no right or wrong answer to this question. It comes down to a matter of this being a personal decision based on your personal preferences and circumstances. It is a more convenient, time-saving option for you to get a Full Face Treatment in one sitting because you’re driving to and from once, you’re numbed and in the chair one time, you walk out having all three procedures done at once, and you go through the quick healing processes all at the same time. Then you just come back for your second application three weeks later and you’re finished.Doing your eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips together delivers facial symmetry. All of the natural contours of your face have been enhanced at the same time. All of the primary features of your facial appearance are in balance.

Many women describe doing one procedure as feeling like a mini-makeover. Doing all three at once feels even better.

Quite a few women will come in wanting to do permanent eyeliner and permanent eyebrows together. Then, after those two procedures, they love how that looks so much they decide they don’t want to wait to do their lips.

Over the years, it’s been a little more than one out of three women who do the full face treatment of permanent makeup at once.

How long does Permanent Makeup Last?

The issue of longevity only comes up because of how natural-looking we are able to enhance your appearance using light blended colors. Having said that, the longevity of your makeup depends on a number of factors, including the color used, depth of the pigment, your unique features, proper post-care, and lifestyle choices such as the amount of exposure to the sun.The darker the pigment chosen for you the longer it will last. The lighter the pigment chosen for you, the faster it will fade. If you’re a blonde, you’re not going to have the longevity of a brunette (though supposedly you’ll have more fun). The amount of sun exposure you get plays a major role. If you use sunblock and limit your exposure to the sun’s rays, you’re going to have greater longevity with your permanent makeup than someone who sunbathes or lies in tanning beds. The darker your skin gets, the lighter your permanent makeup looks. Here are some averages or parameters to consider:

Permanent Eyeliner and Permanent Lip Makeup have the greatest longevity. You are probably looking at wanting a re-touch approximately 5 to 7 years after your initial procedure. Again, it depends on the variables listed above.

For Eyebrow Tattoos it’s often around 2 to 4 years when more fair-skinned people think about having a re-touch. As above, your results may vary depending on the factors previously mentioned.

For what it’s worth, in my case wearing permanent eyeliner, I’ve had my third retouch after the initial procedure 25 years ago (all done by me on myself). So, in my opinion I’d say that’s pretty acceptable longevity.

But my eyebrows don’t have the same longevity. They’re on the highest point of my face and my home is in Arizona’s “Valley of the Sun.” Even though I don’t bathe in the sun, I still touch up mine about every two or two and a half years. This is mainly because I don’t like to see them too dark. And, I don’t believe in ever using any black or gray near the eyebrows.

As for my lips, once again, if you do them light and natural-looking you’re going to maybe consider touching them up 3 to 5 years. If you happen to do your lips a bit of a darker color there’s a good chance you could last about five years without a re-touch. I just re-touched my permanent lip color this spring. It had been six years since the previous re-touch.

If it actually is “Permanent” Makeup, then why will I need a re-touch?

This is a fair question. While I have done this line of work since the year Lady Gaga was born, I did not have anything to do with naming this technique. The “permanent” label is both good and bad. It works in that this is not cosmetics you can wash off at the end of the day like topical makeup. Where it doesn’t work is that often when people see or hear the word “permanent” it implies forever. The reality is permanent makeup is cosmetic tattooing falls somewhere in between. It lasts longer and wears much better than topical makeup. You don’t put it on and take it off.Permanent makeup uses lighter blended colors than body art tattoos in order to keep it looking natural. This is why it eventually fades. You don’t “need” a re-touch; however, if you like how your appearance and how it makes you look better, and saves you time and effort, you will likely get them done occasionally. You set the calendar based on how often. If you aren’t sure, check with your service provider and she or he can help you determine when you might have a re-touch based on a variety or external factors affecting you.

What happens if I change my hair color or decide I want my Permanent Lip Makeup a different color?

During consultations with me, some women make jokes about changing their hair color as often as they change shoes. They wonder how this affects their choices with permanent makeup. It is important to remember it is always best to settle on color which harmonizes with your natural skin tones. Trying to chase your changing hair color will only get you into trouble and turn your natural-looking enhanced appearance into a look which looks like something is wrong or out of balance rather than supporting and showcasing your beauty. The way I apply permanent makeup will not ever make you feel locked into a look. Because you have undetectable permanent makeup that looks natural day or night, you will enjoy great flexibility with your appearance. Wearing topical makeup is still an option or a choice whenever you want. But really, isn’t it nice to know it will no longer be a time stealing necessity every single day?

What types of equipment and delivery method do you use for permanent makeup?

When it comes to technology over the course of the past 25 years I can probably give you a “Been there done that. Thumbs-up or thumbs-down.” Keep in mind it’s not due to indecision or being unhappy with things, but for me, it’s more about feeling as though I owe it to my clients and myself to keep up with the latest developments in my endless pursuit of providing excellent skills, service, and long-lasting results.I use only digital machines. I’m using NouveauPro from Nouveau Contour USA. I’m also still using a digital machine from Germany. I absolutely love it. It’s called the PureBeau System. I began using it, I think, in 1999. I’ve stayed with this machine because my experience has been nothing but positive. It’s a very quiet technology, ergonomic, easily adjustable, and offers plenty of options. For you, the even better news is these digital machines are designed for acupuncture surgical-grade needles that are a major upgrade from standard tattoo pins. If you had permanent makeup done many years ago, you will definitely notice this delivers a much more delicate experience for the skin or lip tissue, and provides you with much greater comfort in getting the look you want.

The fact of the matter is I receive zero compensation for using PureBeau. I pay for it like every other permanent cosmetic professional who chooses to use it.

The benefit for me is seeing your reaction that first moment following your procedure when you hold up a mirror and you see your enhanced natural beauty for the first time.

What is the difference between the Machine Method and the Manual Method in Permanent Cosmetics?

Both methods, if performed properly by a skilled and experienced permanent makeup professional, can deliver the positive results you want. Both involve the same technique of depositing pigment into the dermis layer of your skin. The manual method means that the technician or artist provides all of the power behind the pen which is used to apply your permanent makeup. The machine method offers a more automated process and there are a number of options on the market from which to choose. They range from traditional tattoo guns to newer, lightweight digital machines.

There are some common surprises people have in getting their permanent makeup done by you, what are they?

I do take all my own phone calls personally, make all of my return calls, and handle all of my own bookings for consultations and permanent makeup procedures. I just think it’s a nice personal touch which is helpful to you.The other thing which usually surprises most people is the fact that I also am known to stand in front of the mirror and tattoo my own eyebrows and lips. But no, I do not do my own eyeliner. You know as I often joke with clients, “If I can’t trust myself with doing permanent makeup, then I couldn’t expect you to trust me with doing your procedures either!”

Are the stories of Bad Permanent Makeup real and as bad as I hear?

Yes and yes. This is a sore subject for me. It angers me. I could surely write a book venting on this subject. Please allow me to be blunt.Permanent makeup wouldn’t be so popular if it didn’t offer value and benefits. It does. But it isn’t automatic. You must know that you must choose wisely where you get it done.My business and reputation as an experienced professional are fairly well established. I don’t need to put down the competition in order to get clients. I am lucky and honored to get referrals from doctors. I am always touched by all of the referrals I receive from clients who have happily told others about what good I have done for them. It’s also very nice to get notes from people around the world expressing thanks for all of the information here on this website.

The truth is, I have seen thousands of examples of success in action. By this, I mean excellent undetectable permanent makeup done by true professionals and worn by women of all backgrounds who love how much better they look, how much more confidence they feel in their appearance, and how much of an easier lifestyle they enjoy.

Unfortunately, it is also the whole truth and nothing but the truth that I seem to have more women than ever come to me to fix bad permanent work done by poorly skilled technicians. I didn’t use the term “artist” or “professional” here intentionally because some of the work I see is not that of an artist, nor is it that of a professional.

If you think smears, smudges, or run-offs of your topical makeup is embarrassing, that’s a drop in the ocean of tears you’ll want to cry when it comes to getting a bad tattoo job.

The problem runs more than skin deep. I have women come to me with the confidence in their appearance gone. They hide the damage as best as they can and now makeup takes them more than ever instead of less. Many of these women say they feel more like hiding when they hoped they would be feeling more like shining. So they actually go out in public less as a result of it.

Permanent makeup is not designed to be a self-imposed prison. It is supposed to help you enjoy more freedom from time and effort spent looking great!

Bad permanent makeup is often pretty bad. By this, I mean you have to have it either lasered off or surgically removed. I see an average of 12 to 14 people a month that I refer to a laser clinic and sometimes it’s so bad I have to refer them to a plastic surgeon. It makes my heart ache because it is my chosen trade and there is simply no room or excuse for shoddy work.

I have had a good run for more than 25 years in permanent makeup. There’s not a day goes by when I don’t feel blessed and grateful for it. I take my career very seriously, and work as hard as ever to help others. Because of this, I have the courage and passion to speak out about bad permanent makeup. Hopefully, it prevents people from experiencing this problem.

  • Do your homework on permanent makeup artists.

  • Have a consultation before having a procedure.

  • Don’t let anyone tattoo you who can’t first show you with topical makeup exactly how you will look.

  • Trust your intuition and make a decision you can live with every day.

I absolutely love permanent makeup… and want you to feel the same way!

Does Permanent Makeup Hurt?

permanent-makeup-maggie-damonDoes permanent makeup hurt? This is something you probably want to know if you are considering giving yourself the benefits of permanent makeup. This is one of the questions every permanent makeup artist hears often and must find a way to answer for clients. (For others, go to my FAQ page).

tattoo pigment  I live and work by a policy of being honest with all clients, and potential clients who come to me for a complimentary consultation. So, my answer to the question about whether or not getting permanent makeup hurts is my truth as I know it.

The long and short of it is – NO. Getting permanent makeup done by Sally Hayes does not hurt.

I base this answer on multiple factors, such as having permanent makeup myself, what I see with my own two eyes doing thousands of permanent makeup procedures every year, and the feedback I receive from my clients.

And if that still isn’t enough for you, here is another woman’s opinion and experience. I introduce you to the “Maggie the Magnificent.”

Some people possess inner beauty which you can just see . You can feel it, and enjoy
it any time you are lucky enough to be in their company. I am blessed to have a
number of clients like this. Maggie Damon is definitely one of them.

Maggie hails from a Hollywood connected family. But she is a star in her everyday life. She is one of those people who is so kind and full of life, I always consider it a pleasure to see her.

I’ve done Maggie’s permanent makeup while working out of Donna Sollima’s RN Skincare Clinic in Westlake Village, California (near Thousand Oaks). She was first a satisfied medical skincare patient of Donna. Maggie’s also brought her sister in for me to apply permanent cosmetics on her, too.

Maggie knows herself. She knows she has sensitive eyes and therefore expressed concern about having topical anesthetics applied for permanent makeup procedures.
She made this decision despite knowing it might take away the comfort seemingly
everyone else chooses who wants a pain-free permanent makeup experience.

You can enjoy Maggie Damon in her own words sharing her personal
story in this video we just uploaded to my YouTube Channel:

Permanent Makeup Raw

Digital Permanent Makeup Machine  permanent-makeup-hollywood-caWarning to Aspiring Permanent Makeup Artists: Don’t get into the business if you don’t enjoy meeting and helping people.

tattoo pigment  I’m blessed and I’m lucky. I attract many clients who I really like as people. I also like helping them to look better and feel better about how they look. And selfishly I do love when I see the radiant smile of a woman sitting in my chair when she takes that first look in the mirror with her new permanent makeup. Mission accomplished.

Maggie Damon is one of those clients and charismatic people who makes such a positive impression in simply being who she is that it has a memorable effect on you. As an actress and producer, she is a woman with Hollywood connections but Maggie shines as a real star being such a genuine person. Here is how Maggie describes her experience with me in getting permanent makeup.

Question: What was your experience like getting permanent makeup?

Maggie Damon: “It was fantastic. I had it done in two sessions. I came in to do the first application which primes you. So it fades out a little bit and then you come back a few weeks or a month later and do your second application.

The best, best thing about it was the compliments I started getting. I went on a trip with my husband and he looked at me and said, ‘Maggie, you look really, really good.’ But I wasn’t wearing a stitch of makeup, nothing.

I also take a ballet class. I was there dancing and several women said to me, ‘Wow, you look great. You put makeup on this morning.’ And I said, ‘No, I didn’t. I have tattoo makeup on, I have permanent makeup.’ And they said, ‘Where did you do it?’ They couldn’t tell. So I think it’s a really good thing.

And I have very, very sensitive eyes, I cannot wear a lot of makeup. Every time I’d go out with my husband and it was a very nice event I’d try and put makeup on, I’d put mascara on, my eyes would be red. They just immediately are allergic. This permanent makeup is great. I’m telling you. I’m so happy. I have no more red eyes. I just wake up in the morning. I do an eyelash curler, and that’s it. No mascara, no liner, nothing.”

QuestionWhat was your experience with Sally Hayes Permanent Makeup?

“Sally is fantastic. She understands what you’re going through, number one, so she always puts you at ease. And what I love about Sally, she’s very fast. And she knows color, because like my skin is a very kind of a ruddy color skin but she knew exactly what color to put on my lips. Now I have a sister who’s doing it and her skin is a wholly different tone than mine and the permanent lip makeup color Sally’s doing for her is a totally different color than what I had.

And as far as the eyes go, Sally was sensitive to the fact that I have very allergic eyes, so she didn’t numb them at all. So I wanted to go for it raw. I got my permanent makeup with no anesthetic of any kind. And you know what? It was easy. Sally did it so fast, and it was done, done to perfection.”

Question: Maggie, did it hurt getting it raw?

Maggie Damon: “Yeah.”

QuestionHow much did it hurt?

Maggie Damon: “Well, it hurt. I’m not going to tell you it didn’t hurt. But you know what? It was like giving birth. In 10 minutes I totally forgot about it. It’s over, and now you’ve got beautiful eyes or a beautiful baby, right?”

If Maggie could get her permanent makeup raw and be okay with it, rest assured you’ll be totally comfortable with getting yours done.

Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7, 2012  – Now a woman can use her ears to become more beautiful. And she can get and maintain this enhanced beauty quickly and easily, saving time and effort every day and night whether at work or play. To most beauty-minded women this sounds too good to be true. Oh, but it isn’t.

Can it really be that easy to make applying makeup less of a challenge, less of a hassle, and less of a time consuming necessity? If so, is there a string attached? The answers to these questions are “yes.” There’s always a string attached. And in this case you simply have to use your ears to listen to the nation’s leading permanent makeup expert, Sally Hayes, when she appears on the new Las Vegas radio show, “Under the Knife with Dr. Julio Garcia.” Listeners can also call in live to the show for answers to their own personal questions.

“Under the Knife with Dr. Julio Garcia airs this Monday, January 9, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time. This week his special guest is Sally Hayes, a woman who herself has worked on celebrities as part of the tens of thousands of successful permanent makeup procedures she has performed since becoming one of the first full-time permanent makeup artists back in 1988.

The two will be together on the airwaves to announce the return of Ms. Hayes to the Permanent Makeup Las Vegas scene. “I’m excited to return to Las Vegas, and especially to be back with the best cosmetic surgeon in town, Dr. Julio Garcia, and his wonderful staff,” said Hayes. “I’ll again be performing permanent makeup procedures such as eyebrow tattoos, permanent eyeliner, permanent lip makeup, and cosmetic
camouflage. And as always, we’ll offer complimentary consultations to those exploring the benefits of a natural-looking, fresh and more youthful appearance which also saves a great deal of time and effort in applying topical makeup.

Similar to the widespread popularity of the traditional tattoo industry, or body art, permanent makeup, or cosmetic tattooing has enjoyed rapid expansion in recent years, firmly establishing itself in the mainstream of society in America. Now a multi-million dollar industry, permanent makeup is now a popular option for women from 18 to 80 who want a fresher, more youthful appearance while also saving time and effort in applying makeup daily. Permanent makeup has become one of the popular services offered by Dr. Garcia’s cosmetic surgery practice.

Permanent Makeup: Looking And Booking

tattoo ink Permanent Makeup ConsultationIt’s not money well spent because it doesn’t cost you anything. But it is time well spent because you can see, hear, and learn a whole lot about experiencing permanent makeup and whether or not it is right for your personal beauty plan. Of course I’m talking about having a permanent makeup consultation with me. To get yours, all you need to do is contact me by telephone or by email.

During this session we can address all of your questions, comments, and possible concerns. We can explore what you think you want to do, what might be in your best interests, and we can actually give you a sneak peek at exactly how you’ll look after having permanent makeup done with me. Whether you’re going to get permanent eyebrows, permanent eyeliner, or permanent lip makeup, or all of the above, I’ll apply it with topical makeup, show it to you, and we can either proceed exactly as done, proceed with changes, or in rare cases choose not to proceed.

Today I had a couple of nice women from Prescott, Arizona, call to schedule multiple permanent makeup procedures. When they came in together a couple of weeks ago for a consultation, they loved how they were going to look and seemed ready to go.  I could have done their procedures right then and there and saved them another half day of driving between Scottsdale, Arizona and Prescott, Arizona.

I know your time is precious.

I bring this up to offer you this piece of time saving advice. If you are pretty sure you want permanent eyebrows or permanent eyeliner, and you are pretty sure it is me you want to trust with the honor of doing it, you can often “soft book” your procedures when you schedule your consultation. Just mention you might want to have it done right away and we can try to schedule a convenient time. I’ll mark it down as a consultation possible procedure and if you like what you see you will be good to go. For permanent lip makeup we will need to do it when my nurse is there.

Perhaps I should also point out that one out of every 2 or 3 women who come to me for permanent makeup already have enough trust and confidence in me that they book their procedures bypassing the consultation process altogether. As I tell all of my clients, only do what feels best for you.

Saving time is one of the benefits you’ll enjoy for years if you have permanent makeup. With this post, I’m just trying to help you save time before you get yours.

Permanent Makeup Las Vegas On The Radio

micropigment faq 9Whoever said it is better to be seen and not heard wasn’t talking about the radio. This week it was fun to be heard live on Las Vegas radio station, KLAV-1230 AM as the featured guest on the program, “Under the Knife with Dr. Julio Garcia.”

If you missed the January 9 live radio broadcast, you can click on the link below and listen to the show in its entirety. http://www.lvcosmeticsurgery.com/klavRadio.htm

A few months ago, Dr. Garcia began hosting a weekly radio show on the station. He is such a natural for it. He’s the kind of guy who can talk about anything in life, whether or not it has to do with cosmetic surgery.

As a physician and a surgeon, Dr. Garcia sees the value and benefits of his patients having permanent makeup. It is an honor and a pleasure to have my Permanent Makeup Las Vegas location as part of his cosmetic surgery practice.

Julio L. Garcia, M.D. FACS is unique in that he cares so much about people, he often turns them away as patients. Can you believe it? If he is certain cosmetic surgery isn’t the right thing for a person or they are not ready for it at that time (and there are any number of reasons why he could feel this way), Dr. Garcia will try his best to protect the person and tell them either not to have the surgery or to wait. It doesn’t matter if they have the cash in hand.

Dr. Garcia places people over profits. But make no mistake about it, when he does perform cosmetic surgery, he puts a lot of big smiles on patient’s faces whether he’s doing a facelift, breast augmentation, or other procedure. He is a truly fine surgeon with an equally fine professional and personable staff.

For decades I have treated all women who enter my permanent makeup clinic in similar fashion to Dr. Garcia. If a woman is not ready for a touch up, I flat out tell her to save her money and wait. If someone wants me to lock them into a look which I know will not look right, I simply tell them, “I’m not your girl.” I won’t do it. For the many women who come to me on a regular basis to fix their permanent makeup gone wrong at the hands of another permanent makeup artist, I give them my time and advice free of charge in order to help them through their nightmare. In fact, one of the things I often have to do is refer them to a specialist for laser procedures before I can work on making their permanent makeup right.

Dr. Garcia and I both believe if you simply help people to the best of your ability, the universe takes care of you for taking care of others. Between the two of us, it’s been a successful and satisfying formula for nearly half a century.

A Permanent Makeup Artist On The 2012 Oscars

tattoo ink permanent-lip-makeup-los-angeles-ca“The Artist” won Best Picture honors and a pair of other Oscars last night. And this Permanent Makeup
Los Angeles artist who works on people in Hollywood wanted to offer her heartfelt congratulations to all of those who made the film about the early days of Hollywood such a big success.

microblading ink I love what I do with permanent makeup in helping women save time and enjoy added confidence in how they look. So to me, it’s always inspirational to see or hear a powerful story of someone else who cares so much about what they choose to do with their life and career.

(By the way, I’ll be working in Southern California this weekend at my Permanent Makeup West Hollywood and Permanent Makeup Westlake Village locations).

Billy Crystal was again the entertaining host of the Oscars. The talk today is about what plastic surgery work he may have had done on his face. Regardless, he may have put smiles on millions of faces across America when he came out with what may have been the line of the night, “Nothing takes the sting out of these tough economic times like watching a bunch of millionaires giving golden statues to each other!”

The last couple of years have been rough around the world, but still I keep seeing signs that the economy is alive. Women will always spend money on feeling good or better about themselves and their appearance. We’ll still get our hair and nails done. We’ll still do all we can with skincare and get permanent makeup because we want to save time and effort in looking our best. And we know permanent makeup helps us to maintain a fresher, more youthful appearance.

While aging is a part of life, we can all do what we can to fight it or enjoy it. In winning Oscars late in life, Meryl Streep and Christopher Plummer showed there are still great things which can happen for us as we get older. It took Plummer to his 80’s to finally win his first Oscar. While Meryl Streep waited nearly 30 years for another Best Actress award.

As a permanent makeup artist, I notice every year the Oscars gets women to take action on their appearance. They see the beautiful celebrities walk the red carpet, or see them on stage or in the audience, and that inner desire to look better themselves just leads them to do something about it.

This year it was Angelina Jolie who created quite a stir with her custom Atelier Versace black gown with a thigh-high slit, her stunning slender figure, and of course her makeup. While she wasn’t nominated this year as an actress, she was there as a presenter along side Brad Pitt.

It’s only a matter of time when my phone rings today and a woman tells me she wants permanent lip makeup and wants me to make her lips look like Angelina Jolie’s. While I can certainly help you to enjoy sexier, thicker, and fuller-looking lips in a heartbeat, I might be worthy of an Oscar myself as ”The Artist” if it was just as quick and easy to give all of us great-looking thighs like Angelina Jolie.

Fixing Bad Permanent Makeup – Bad Permanent Eyebrows

Bad Permanent Eyebrows“Two wrongs don’t make a right.” No doubt you’ve heard this saying directly. Chances are by now in your life you’ve probably even spoken this adage yourself. At any rate, you might find it helpful to remember the “two wrongs don’t make a right” lesson when it comes to considering bad permanent makeup correction or actually fixing bad permanent makeup.

Digital Permanent Makeup Machine  Breathe. Focus. Have a clear goal and mission based on knowledge of acts and not emotion. Fixing bad permanent makeup is not about saving money. It is not about saving face. Fixing bad permanent makeup is about saving your face, protecting your appearance and preserving your positive, self-image for years to come.

Yelling at the person who did your bad permanent makeup might feel good. Check that, it might feel great. But it won’t solve your problem. If you are that upset, then you can request or demand your money back. Whether or not you get it, you can treat this financial matter as a separate issue. You can explore legal action. You can share your experiences online to help others exploring permanent makeup. Whatever you do, take your medicine so to speak and move on to finding the cosmetic solution for your face.

Bad Permanent Eyebrows/Eyebrow Tattoos

Since an eyebrow tattoo or permanent eyebrows is the most popular procedure I do in each of my permanent makeup locations in Scottsdale, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, CA, and New York, NY, let’s look closely now at fixing them. The reality is eyebrows are not only the most popular choice for permanent makeup, they are often the most difficult to cover-up.

If a so-called permanent makeup artist gave you a bad case of permanent makeup, don’t just assume she or he will magically get it right the second time. There’s rarely a charm in this situation. Many people often come to me saying the person actually made a bigger mess trying to fix the bad permanent makeup job they did the first time. While this person obviously wants to do well and stay in business, he or she may not be able to help you. Remember, “two wrongs don’t make a right.”

If you leaped into love with the benefits of permanent makeup but didn’t choose your permanent makeup artist wisely, then don’t rush into this person’s chair again a second time. Remember, “two wrongs don’t make a right.”

I know every woman has high hopes when she gets permanent makeup. It looks great and makes your life and your appearance so much easier for years at a time. But only if and when you have it done right the first time.

I know having to wear bad permanent makeup hurts you. It hurts me to see it. I know you just wish it never happened. I know you just want it to go away. But you have to calm down and really think clearly.

Whether or not you got at least a second opinion before you had your bad permanent makeup done, you will definitely want to do it this time. And don’t simply go back to the same ones you consulted before. The permanent makeup artist who promotes cash discounts, or the one who works closest to your home, job, or gym, may not be the best alternative especially when your face is already messed up with bad permanent makeup.

This no time to pinch pennies or save time on a shorter commute. Seek out the most reputable and experienced permanent makeup professionals you can. After doing so, you will then have input from multiple reliable sources and can make an informed decision about what to do next, or the equally important “what not to do next.”

Based on nearly a quarter of a century of experience, I want to help you beyond just having you remember “two wrongs don’t make a right.” So, keep in mind this important point:

“Cosmetic surgery to remove your bad permanent eyebrows is often the only quick fix.”

Here are some additional helpful permanent makeup tips for you to remember especially when it comes to fixing bad permanent eyebrows:

  • The darker the eyebrows, the more applications it will take to fix them. Jumping right back into another permanent makeup procedure might not even be advised. You might require laser therapy. And this isn’t instant gratification either. You might need anywhere from 3 to 20 treatments spaced a month to 6 weeks apart. Then you can get permanent makeup done right.

  • The same theory applies if you are using a color corrector to bring an eyebrow down from black to brown. You have to give your skin a break and allow it to heal. Otherwise you will build up scarring. This is why I have the courage to tell new clients the harsh truth sometimes that if their eyebrows are badly misshaped or in the wrong position, the best and quickest solution is to consult with one of the plastic surgeons I work with regularly.

  • If your permanent eyebrows are solid “Jet Black” and have the wrong placement, my recommendation is usually to surgically remove them and start over. Fix the problem. Learn from your mistake and move on. Get your permanent makeup done right the second time and enjoy all the benefits which will last you for years.

  • If your tattooed eyebrows are gray but not too dark, you can use a brow color corrector.  You’ll only want to use ORANGE. This will help to lighten the eyebrows and turn them back to a brown.

  • The darker the color of your permanent eyebrows, the more applications it will take to bring them back to a brown shade. Try thinking about it this way. You have a black wall. How many coats will it take to achieve painting it a light color?

  • If your tattooed eyebrows are a blueish black or gray blue color, you have to be extremely careful with color correction. You don’t want to turn your eyebrows an even more unnatural shade of green or teal. This is an all too common mistake and reminder of how “two wrongs don’t make a right.”

  • If your permanent eyebrows are red, but they are the right shape, you might just be okay. You should be able to use a color corrector of green to turn back to brown.

  • If you wound up with purple permanent eyebrows, there is a solution. You can usually apply a yellow to turn them back to brown.

  • If you have eyebrow tattoos which are in the wrong place, are multi-colored, or too dark, it’s never a case of one and done. You need to do multiple treatments to remove the bad permanent makeup. NOTE TO SELF: You absolutely should not take another color and try to cover up the damage. If you do, you’ll only create a color you’d never want or one you cannot fix without surgery.

Most people do not realize how expensive, painful, and time consuming it is to remove a bad permanent eyebrows job. So know if you are going through this at least you are not alone. Remember, “two wrongs don’t make a right.” Remember, there is a solution. And remember, this is temporary. It may not feel like it but this too shall pass. Best of luck!

Permanent Makeup Los Angeles: From Oscar To Oxymoron

Four days after the Oscars celebrated Hollywood with the world, ol’ Sally Hayes quietly came to town. Without the fanfare I was celebrating my return to the Permanent Makeup Los Angeles/Hollywood/Beverly Hills scene.

tattoo ink The oxymoron I want to share with you from my work today in Dr. Cambre’s plastic surgery office is not “jumbo shrimp,” “amicable divorce” or “untimely death.” But like those it’s a contradiction in terms. My oxymoron from today is about how the subtle, undetectable permanent makeup I do can make a huge difference in a woman’s appearance.

los-angeles-california-permanent-eyeliner1The photo here is of a lovely young woman named Inga. She does not like to wear mascara. Because of this she wanted her permanent eyeliner to be done very lightly.

The photo shows Inga immediately after we tattooed her permanent eyeliner on her left eye. Look at the difference. It’s subtle but at the same time you can definitely notice it. We both enjoyed how it immediately took the tired look out of her eyes. We also liked how it instantly made her eyelashes appear thicker than they really are.

I told Inga this first application would quickly fade 30 to 50% so she could then decide how much darker she would ultimately like it to be when we do her second application in a few weeks. So as it stands now, I’ll end with one more oxymoron by saying Inga’s permanent eyeliner is “completely unfinished.”

Permanent Makeup Las Vegas: Premium Outlets Getaway

tattoo ink Welcome to Las VegasThe ”Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada sign is a world famous stop on many people’s getaway visits or gambling junkets. Oh, excuse me, I meant to say “business trips.” It’s more popular than the place I’m about to promote. But for me a trip to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets always seems to welcome me with open arms.

Whenever I go the offices of Julio Garcia, M.D. to do permanent makeup procedures like I am this Monday, I always feel like I’m walking into a family setting. The staff is so friendly and kind. I also love the diverse selection of women who mainly come in to see to me for permanent eyebrows, permanent eyeliner, or permanent lip makeup.

But when my work day is done in Las Vegas and I want to think about something other than permanent makeup, I don’t rush off to my favorite casino. I’m not a gambler with chips, money, or the faces of my clients.

One of my favorite places in Sin City is the Las Vegas Premium Outlets. In both the North Las Vegas and South locations there is a sinfully large selection of shoes, clothing, handbags, and more. And the discounted prices are a fraction of what you might pay for the same item at a store in one of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip.

I’ve you’ve never been to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets, I’ve attached a quick peek for you in this YouTube video. Just click on the link below and check out one of the places I recommend to my out of town clients who come to see me as their Permanent Makeup Las Vegas solution and enjoy a fun getaway at the same time.

Permanent Makeup: Driving Miss Crazy

tattoo pigment  phoenix-arizona-permanent-makeupSorry for the pun on the movie “Driving Miss Daisy.” I simply couldn’t resist,. And there’s two good, fresh reasons for it. One’s a permanent makeup Los Angeles story. The other is a permanent makeup Phoenix story. Let’s start with L.A. since I’m working here today.

tattoo ink On our commute to work this morning, my friend Donna and I couldn’t help but watch in sheer amazement as a woman driving next  us was busy smearing foundation all over her face. She was driving with her arm while using the back of her hand and what might as well have been a putty knife to slab on makeup. It was not a pretty sight.

We were sad we had to turn off the road. Here we were in the land of Hollywood and we left a thrilling movie right in the middle. But wait, it gets better.

I then receive an email from a client in Phoenix. The timing was so perfect I just had to share it with you. It’s a classic tale of someone else who could use permanent makeup.

“Good morning Sally,

I hope you are well. I must tell you this quick story. This morning I had just dropped off my son at Phoenix Country Day School as I do every day. Another ho hum morning, right? Wrong.

An SUV in front of me on Camelback Road was all over the place. Swerving from lane to lane, driving slow then faster, then slower again, hitting the brakes, etc. I might have called 9-1-1 but left my cellphone at home.

It seemed a little early in the day to me for a DUI situation, and sure enough it wasn’t. I was able to pull up beside this SUV at a red light just before it turned green. I got there just in time to see the woman driving punch her steering wheel really hard. Ouch.

It seems she was mad at doing her makeup!

She took off again doing more of her bad driving while she focused more on her eye makeup. At the next red light I rolled down my window to get her attention and suggest she be more careful. The woman was busy applying mascara. I guess she wasn’t happy with her makeup or me because when she finally did look over…she flipped me the bird and then zoomed off!

I thought this might be a great story for the next time you’re on TV on Sonoran Living! LOL. But the way this woman was driving she’ll probably make an ABC 15 News story first for causing a major accident! Who ever thought we’d be saying Sally Hayes Permanent Makeup could actually make Phoenix, Arizona a safer place to live?

By the way, my eyebrows and eyeliner look great. I’m getting so many compliments. I’m so glad Denise referred me to you. Speaking of Camelback, thanks again for your help in fixing my bad permanent makeup job from you know who. I don’t even want to say her name it makes me so mad. I’m grateful for you every day especially on mornings like this one when I was running late. You’ve made my life so much easier.”

Be careful on the roads today ladies. Whether you’re in Los Angeles or Phoenix, be sure to watch out for Driving Miss Crazy.

Permanent Makeup Super Commercial

micropigment Sally Hayes Permanent Makeup ArtistOne week ago was Super Bowl 46. One week ago I didn’t know Tom Brady from Greg Brady of the Brady Bunch, or Eli Manning from Eli Whitney (the inventor of the cotton gin). : 0 )

Before one week ago I doubt the words Super Bowl and Permanent Makeup had ever been within 100 yards of each other. But one week ago, I appeared in a promotional video which I was told might get 10,000 views on YouTube with a little luck.

Lady Luck herself must have or want permanent makeup. Maybe it’s my Permanent Makeup Las Vegas connection which is giving the good karma. I’m not sure. What I do know is more than 35,000 views have taken place in one week. More than a few of them were football guys who probably don’t even realize women have eyebrows or care enough about them to want permanent eyebrows. Nor did they have any interest in what came out of my mouth about permanent lip makeup.

I’ll let the guys stick to goal lines and sidelines. I’ll stick to doing permanent eyeliner. Here’s a link to the video if you’d like to watch it:

Permanent Lip Makeup: Enjoy Chocolate But Don’t Wear It

tattoo ink Brown Permanent Lip MakeupChocolate is always in season in one form or another. I can always make a good case for that. Chocolate is one of my joys in life, especially Almond Joys. But Mother Nature seems as though she’s ready to bring another season of hot chocolate to a timely end.

microblading ink Today in the Phoenix, Arizona area the temperature is supposed to reach the mid 80′s. As someone who has done permanent makeup professionally since the mid 80′s, I’m bringing up the subject of chocolate as it pertains to your facial features and your overall appearance.

Yesterday, I had a beautiful and vibrant young Latina come in to see me for a complimentary consultation. One of her friends is a client of mine so she was recommended to me for doing her permanent makeup.

Of course I wanted to help this lovely young woman. So I gave her a helping hand by convincing her to “Talk to the hand!” She wanted chocolate colored permanent lip color. I told her I wouldn’t do that to her. She firmly reminded me of being referred to me and wanted to know why I was not helping her. I explained that I was.

What I call chocolate milk lips was a pretty popular look in the ’70s and ’80s. (what we were thinking back then anyway?) Before there were brown lip pencils available in the market, women would actually use an eyebrow pencil to create their desired brown line
on their lips. While it is not a color choice for me, that doesn’t make it wrong as a fashion color. So, the real problem is this:

The color brown does not tattoo very well. It leaves most women who choose this for permanent lip makeup with a permanent look as though they just finished drinking hot chocolate or chocolate milk.

As a permanent makeup artist I can tell you from experience that when you mix browns with tissue color it just doesn’t heal well or end up well. It usually leaves your lips looking cold.

I have built a career and reputation for preserving and enhancing the natural look of women’s facial features. One of the reasons many of the leading plastic surgeons have referred patients to me is because they know I will never lock anyone into a look they will one day regret.

The explanation worked. This lovely young woman agreed to wait on what she thought she wanted. I asked her to take a couple of days and think about what I was suggesting to her. If she still wanted it, I would refer her to another permanent makeup artist. She thanked me for my honesty and for caring enough to take that kind of a stand.

Now while I did celebrate the personal decisions we both made in that situation, I’m not celebrating the end of hot chocolate season just yet since I know I will be cold this weekend as a New York permanent makeup artist.
